Pottery painting is the art of decorating ceramic items such as vases ,mugs and plates by applying acrylic paints

Apply lighter colours first and gradually layer darker shades on top. This avoids muddling colours and helps create depth in designs.
(Use is sponge to dab paint for a textured effect this technique works grade for creating soft backgrounds...optional)

Use the ends of paint brushes for dotting tools to add dots in varying sizes like Polka dots or mandalas.

Use a fine liner brush it allows more  control when drawing thin lines on delicate patterns.


Test on paper first ....practice your design on paper or a test tile before applying it to the pottery to ensure it turns out as planned.

Pottery vases are perfect for displaying fresh or dried flowers becoming a focal point in home decor. Pottery candle holders or oil lamps create a warm ambience 

Experiment with colour contrast 
Play with contrasting colours that pop, like blues and yellows or blacks and  whites .This will give your pottery a vibrant eye catching appeal.

Adding colours like gold or silver gives a polished and luxurious feel to your your design.

Don't forget to paint the edges and  small details .Even minor areas like the rim of a vase or the handle of a mug can add beauty to the piece 
  
Tell a story through your design it could represent a personal journey .A myth or a scene that flows across the pottery. This will make your entry more meaningful and memorable to the judges.

Once painted use a glaze to protect the design and give it a glossy or matte finish .The right glaze can make colours appear more vibrant and give your piece a professional look.
